MY PROJECTS

As a Pipeline Technical Director/Pipeline R&D I work with the VFX Supervisor and Director closely. In addition I also implement my 3D Generic software so I am entirely technically responsible for how it will be used. I built up the actual environment into softwares that already existed to create an entirely new and tailor-made environment for all those projects.

In my Pipeline research and Development roles in all of those movies I was responsible for the software used for them itself as well as being the technical expert who manages all technical aspects of the creation, specifically creating the mentioned tools each production needs.

I have experience developing and organizing entire workflows and had the responsibility of helping and co-managing all VFX teams to execute their tasks successfully. In all projects mentioned below I was in charge of designing and developing custom tools to help everyone on the teams get their work done faster and better.

Asura
Pipeline Technical Director (2018)
Asura is a Chinese epic fantasy film based on Buddhist mythology. The film is directed by Peng Zhang, a Hollywood stunt coordinator who worked on The Twilight Saga and Ant-Man and produced by Alibaba Pictures.

3D Generic was used as the main tool to organize the entire production process in terms of visual effects and technical specifications. It was chosen by the team as the leading post-production solution which is the most important step of creating any movie.

I also managed the automation of content delivery and software-level troubleshooting. This means working on the automation of all processes, excluding any manual work. I contributed to the automation for the Artist, Production, Editorial, Director and Visual effects departments. This showed that the tools offered by my software were able to accomplish huge tasks in a specific time-frame - year and a half (Feb 2017 to June 2018) for the whole planning, pre-production, production and post-production of the movie.
Suicide Squad
Pipeline Technical Director (2016)
OllinVFX / Ollin Studio

The Suicide Squad superhero film based on the DC Comics super villain team of the same name was written and directed by David Ayer and stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jay Hernandez and Jai Courtney.

Suicide Squad was a box office success, grossing $325.1 million in the United States and Canada and $421.7 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $746.8 million, against a production budget of $175 million. It received a total number of 9 awards and 39 nominations for international acclaimed awards including an Academy Award and a Critics’ Choice Award.
I connected the sequences and shots administration between the visual effects artists, the production and the visual effects supervisor, as well as compatibility tasks and pipeline between Houdini SideFX Software, Maya and the Production Department. I have also created the full automation tasks for compositing and provided technical support for the completion of computer graphics shots. With this each VFX artist has the opportunity to speed up the process of content delivery and also to speed up the process for CGI replacement. With my new solution, they were able to convert or change the entire shot much easier.
Deadpool
Pipeline Technical Director (2016)
OllinVFX / Ollin Studio

Deadpool is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and was directed by Tim Miller. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano and Brianna Hildebrand. The film achieved both financial and critical success. It earned over $783 million against a $58 million budget, breaking numerous records: it became the highest-grossing R-rated film, the highest-grossing X-Men film, and the ninth-highest-grossing 2016 film. It received numerous awards and nominations including 2 Golden Globe nominees.

As a Pipeline Technical Director I made it possible for the VFX artists to troubleshoot in a better way. In this process I also supported and developed tools and procedures, which maintained and enhanced the production pipeline features. The added value of my skills and 3D Generic here was also the way I created the environment for the complex scenes that needed to be in different resolutions. I created custom tools in the pipeline for the visual artists. This sped up the process in the green-screen replacement and added CGI spades easier, with that, the VFX Supervisor could see more closer the final version of the work before submitting it to the studio. For the first time this was accomplished on such a large scale in this exact way because of 3D Generic’s ability to execute such a requirement - mixing scenes of different visual resolution, I used similar solution in the movie Chappie.

Furious 7
Pipeline Technical Director (2015)
OllinVFX / Ollin Studio

One of the biggest achievements in my career until now is the seventh movie of the Fast and Furious franchise. Here my job was extremely responsible not only because of technical requirements but also because it was connected to posthumous acting and the tribute to actor Paul Walker who died in a car accident while the movie was in production. Because of his unfortunate death the producers and the investors of the movie used my innovation and with my technology and the help of CGI (computer generated reality) we finalized the scenes where his character had scenes.

I created the custom plugins and internal studio tools for Maya Software - camera tracking for Paul Walker’s posthumous appearance, integrating the pipeline within the studio tools using CGI to create a digital actor to recreate Paul Walker’s face. On this project many studios were involved. I was the one to develop the entire tracking camera and camera match-moving of his face with a digital actor created by CGI or 3D, this was the base to recreate the entire face where his two brothers helped serving as models for the unfinished scenes. We also used Caleb and Cody Walker as doubles in the process.

CHAPPiE
Pipeline Technical Director (2015)
OllinVFX / Ollin Studio

CHAPPiE is a dystopian science fiction directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by him and Terri Tatchell. It stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, Hugh Jackman, and Ninja and Yolandi Visser of the South African zef rap-rave group Die Antwoord as metafictional versions of themselves.

The film grossed $102 million worldwide against a $49 million budget and was nominated for an Outstanding Animated Performance in a Photoreal Feature, by the Visual Effects Society.

This was the first feature film my skills and 3D Generic were used for. Here similar to Deadpool the scenes where different resolution was needed depending on the shot name, a tailor-made module for interaction with other software for visual effects like Nuke was needed. I created the solution using my software and I also worked on the faster delivery modules for color correction for more than 24 sequences in the entire movie.

House of Cards
Pipeline Technical Director (2013)
OllinVFX / Ollin Studio

The highly acclaimed and popular political thriller House of Cards was my first major project with 3D Generic and with Ollin VFX.

The web television series created by Beau Willimon started with their first 13-episode season released on February 1, 2013, on the streaming service Netflix.

I worked specifically on the custom rotoscoping plugins to automate The Foundry Nuke software and on automation in Continuous Delivery for shot tasks on Nuke Software with custom modules. I managed and came up with Rotoscoping solutions for the faster delivery and background replacement -  this is a very difficult task if you try to do it manually.
